Call for Session Papers

 IGU COMMISSION ON AFRICAN STUDIES CALL FOR SESSION PROPOSALS:
IGU-CAG CONFERENCE, QUEBEC CITY, CANADA 2018

This is an invitation for session proposals for the GU-CAG Conference, which will be held in Quebec City from August 6 to 10 2018 on the theme: “Appreciating Difference/Appréier la difference”.

Therefore, the IGU Commission of African Studies invites proposals for sessions under the following indicative but not exhaustive list of themes.

  • Africa and climate change
  • Africa climate variations
  • Africa and gender
  • Africa and natural resource use/management
  • African borderlands
  • African cities
  • African development challenges and trajectories
  • African population geographies
  • Conflict, war and development
  • Environmental issues and problems in Africa
  • Industrialization and urbanization
  • Migration in Africa
  • Migration, development and regional integration
  • Water resources management and governance

Session chairs are encouraged to develop session abstracts that will attract papers, which respond to and/or reflect on the theme of the conference, which is: “Appreciating difference/Apprécier la difference”.

Session format

A session is generally constituted of 3-4 paper presentations of 15 minutes each plus five minutes for questions/discussions. The presentations will be led by the session chair. Session chairs may propose full sessions (session abstract and all papers) or only a session abstract, which will be completed after the allocation of abstracts, when the call for papers closes.
